Former mayor honored with Utrecht sportpenning

Wesley Sneijder is in Utrecht awarded the Sportpenning for his special effort for the Dutch sports world. The born Utrechter is renowned for the societal impact of his personal and business projects.

Mayor Jan van Zanen presented the special medal Saturday night out on the 33-year-old Sneijder.

The midfielder is now in Qatar for Al-Gharafa, but he began as a youth player at the Utrecht DOS. At Ajax, Real Madrid, Internazionale and Galatasaray, he has won then numerous awards and in the shirt of Orange, he was record international 133 international matches.

“During his football career, he has Utrecht never lost sight of,” writes the municipality of Utrecht, as an example the Foundation Sport Shallow mentions, that Sneijder is established.

That foundation supports the amateurvoetbalvereniging D. H. S. C, organises activities for the district’s Shallow and offers the Utrecht food bank a helping hand. “The social involvement of Sneijder and his efforts for the Dutch sports world make him an example for many utrecht residents.”

The Sportpenning by the municipality of Utrecht awarded to persons or associations who are in a branch of sport in particular, have contributed. Sneijder is by the municipality to be seen as an ambassador for the Dutch world of sports.
