The first edition of the Brussels International Film Festival (BRIFF) takes from 20 to 30 June, with Claudia Cardinale as guests of honour. On the program are three filmcompetities and various open-air performances in the capital.
During his first edition spreads the BRIFF located immediately across seven locations. In the Bozar, UGC De Brouckère, Palace, Vendôme, Les Galleries, Flagey and on the mont des arts can movie buffs enjoy a carefully chosen selection of new movies, but also real cult classics. The opener of the festival on the 20th of June is ‘The Man Who Killed Don Quixote’, the film where director Terry Gilliam (ex-Monthly Python) for 25 years, worked on, and is shown in Bozar and UGC De Brouckère. The public will also get a comprehensive retrospective of guest of honour, Claudia Cardinale with both short films as feature films, including the masterful periodedrama ‘Il Gattopardo’ (The Leopard) by Luchino Visconti.
The BRIFF sets immediately an international, European and national filmcompetitie for with dozens of discoveries to the public. There is also an “off-program” that focuses on a number of special categories such as the subversive cinema or the movies where the main character will play himself.
On the mont des arts the lovers are in the open air than to do good to rediscover classics such as ‘Le Gendarme de Saint-Tropez’ or ‘Grease’. Randal Kleiser, the director of “Grease”, comes in addition to the BRIFF to give a masterclass.
