Björn Kuipers would love to get to the finals of the world cup in Russia flutes.
“That is the dream of every referee. But even if it’s not happening, I can look back on a fantastic career. My career is complete, even without a world cup final,” he said at a press conference at the KNVB in Zeist.
The 45-year-old Oldenzaler begins his fourth final round with his regular assistants Sander van Roekel and Erwin Zeinstra. Team Kuipers was also on the european CHAMPIONSHIP of 2012, the world cup of 2014 and the european CHAMPIONSHIPS of 2016. “With four tournaments end and eight international finals, we can say that we are the most successful arbitral trio from the Netherlands,” said Van Roekel.
The arbitral trio recently led for the second time in the final of the Europa League. Kuipers whistled the final of the Champions League in 2014 and the final of the Confederations Cup in 2013.
