Petra Kvitova has Monday qualified for the second round of Roland Garros. The belarusian Victoria Azarenka remains on the sucker and was immediately eliminated in the first round.
The Czech Petra Kvitova (WTA 8) won in the opening round in three sets of Veronica Cepede Royg (WTA 89) from Paraguay: 3-6, 6-1 and 7-5.
In the second round, plays the dual Wimbledonkampioene (2011 and 2014), the eighth seed, against Lara Arruabarrena (WTA 91). The Spanish won with a 7-6 (7/5) 6-3 against Hungarian Timea Babos (WTA 37). The best result of the 28-year-old Kvitova at Roland Garros is a semi-final (in 2012).
Azarenka remains on the sucker
The Grand Slam comeback from Victoria Azarenka has not taken a long time. The former number one in the world was in the first round immediately turned off by the Czech Katerina Siniakova (WTA 57): 7-5, and 7-5.
The 28-year-old Azarenka has been for months engaged in a legal battle with her ex for custody of the boy, which she is diminished to the 82nd place on the WTA ranking.
