TEL AVIV/BERLIN – Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu is going next week to Europe to talk with leaders about the threat that Iran would pose. Monday he speaks in Berlin with German chancellor Angela Merkel and in the evening he goes to Paris for consultations with French president Emmanuel Macron.
Possible also follows a meeting with the British government, Theresa May. Wednesday will Netanyahu back home.
Israel has repeatedly argued that the military presence of Iran in Syria suffer. In the course of the Syrian civil war in 2011, the predominantly shiite Iran as a key ally of the regime of president Assad and the military sent.
Also the Iran-backed shiite Lebanese Hezbollah has played a key role in the fight against rebels in Syria, mainly from sunni extremists exist. Assad is not a sunni, but a member of a religious minority.
Iran is in the war on the same side as Russia that Assad’s military, the destruction has been saved. The Israeli Defence minister Avigdor Lieberman talks Thursday in Moscow with his Russian colleague Sergey Sjoigoe about the Iranian presence in Syria.
