Nafi Thiam defends this weekend its title in the internet at the prestigious Hypomeeting in Austrian Götzis. The olympic and world champion, who last year in Götzis to the third best athlete of all time worldwide, crowning, there is sense in it. She tempers the expectations.
“That I am something special have dropped, it does me little. Each slope is 400 metres long, so as a very special experience I this year,” says Thiam, very sober from the shore. “It is of course an ideal opportunity to see where I stand, especially with the eye at the european CHAMPIONSHIPS in Berlin. The training went very well, but I’m not prepared to be here in top form. That was me last year. This year is different. I feel the training is similar to last year, but have barely competitions.”
Calling her performance of last year, really no special reminder for Thiam, even if they see that very Götzis is full of hanging posters in which she is featured? “I don’t feel that that changes anything. Of course it is nice to be the best son I’ve ever put on the poster, and it is a meeting where I really want to go bowl, but it’s not something where I have emotions to feel. I don’t do it for the posters.”
