The former treasurer of the Spanish Partido Popular party, Luis Barcenas, for 33 years the cell and gets a fine of 44 million euros after a corruption scandal. The brains behind the corruptiezaak need 51 years to the cell.
Barcenas was sentenced for money laundering, personal enrichment and tax fraud. His wife, Rosalia Iglesias should be 15 years to the prison. Of the 37 defendants were 29 convicted of schriftvervalsing and tax fraud. Together they had 351 years in prison.
Francisco Correa has been 13 years in the cell sat for another thing, and disappears again now 51 years behind bars. He is considered the mastermind behind the corruptiezaak.
The scandal over the illegal funding of the Partido Popular haunts prime minister Mariano Rajoy. The party had a Caja B, an additional box in which black money was deposited for the election campaign. The question is to what extent Rajoy was aware of that black cash. Rajoy denies that he has done something wrong since he came to power in 2011.
