Michel Preud’homme commits his future to Standard Liege. The former coach of FC Twente for four years to work for the Belgian club.
Preud’homme will be in the first three years of his contract trainer and then technical director and vice-president, confirms Standard-chairman Bruno Venanzi.
“Michel is the best coach of the country,” said Venanzi at Sporza. The Portuguese coach Ricardo Sa Pinto should be on Sclessin make way for the ex-goalkeeper of the Belgian national team.
“Sa Pinto has left. That was a decision we had already a time ago,” explains Venanzi. “Results are important, but the image of Standard is that. And as chairman I need to think long term.”
Under Sa Pinto won Standard this season in the cup and ended up second in the league. In december was the trainer for three matches suspended after he was in a bekerduel with Anderlecht to the tribune was sent after a ‘schwalbe’.
“Ricardo has beautiful work, especially at the end of the season,” says Venanzi. “The beginning was much more difficult. When could his behavior is not always acceptable, certainly not relative to the arbitration.”

As a trainer, he had Standard at the beginning of this century into two periods under his care. Then he coached AA Gent, FC Twente, Al-Shabab in Saudi Arabia and Club Brugge.
With FC Twente, he won the Johan Cruijff Scale and the KNVB-cup. On the last day of the 2010/2011 season saw the Tukkers the title wrong in a direct duel with rival Ajax.
