The Swiss Michael Albasini (Mitchelton – Scott) picked up Wednesday, his first victory of the season in the Norwegian Tour des Fjords (2.BC). He won the second stage in the sprint of a thinned peloton. Sep Vanmarcke gave up on by the consequences of his crash on Tuesday. Fabio Jakobsen (Quick-Step Floors) retains his blue leader’s jersey.
At the end of the 189 kilometres of the second stage between Risor and Kristiansand layers a few climbs, but then waited for Michael Gogl, Floris Gerts and Aksel Aasheim not. They formed the early breakaway of the day, but never had a chance to succeed by the small lead that the peloton gave under the direction of Tim Declercq and Niki Terpstra, team mates of the leader Jakobsen.
Along the way it lost the peloton Sep Vanmarcke. The day after his fall in the sprint gave the rider of EF Education First – Drapac in the feeding zone. In the two local laps in Kristiansand there were as expected some attack attempts on the slope. Below more Lotto – Soudal touched, but a group of about forty riders pulled together to the finish, where a sprint had to decide for the victory.
In that sprint pulled Albasini at the longest end. The 37-year-old Swiss, who in the spring could not excel by a virus, sprinted faster than the Dutchman Pim Ligthart and the Norwegian thuisrenner Kristoffer Halvorsen. With Edvald Boasson Hagen and Amund Grondahl Jansen took two Norwegians in the top five. Jakobsen finished eighth and got after finish a new leiderstruitje around the shoulders. Albasini follows in the stand now in the same time.
The Tour des Fjords ends Thursday with a distance of 185 km between Farsund and Egersund.
