Search from morning to Victor Campenaerts. The European time-trial champion is getting out of the Giro, among others, because today he is only thirteen, ended up in the long individual time trial, won by Rohan Dennis.
Lotto Fix All came with the message of the declaration of Campenaerts. After Tim Wellens, he is the second rider of the Belgian team that the arena exit.
“I am very disappointed about the result today,” said the man from antwerp . “It does not come as a surprise that I feel this way as you can with high expectations at the start. I had however for the time trial, no adverse signals felt and I will not hide behind excuses. Two days ago he kicked me during a ride in line for 40 minutes with a higher wattage than it is today. Of course that is not something that you expect as a time-trialist.”
Campenaerts points to wear as the reason for its lesser performance. “In time trials at the beginning of a Large Round, such as in the Tour de Romandie, the Tour of Algarve and last time trial in Jerusalem, I can measure with the top of the world,” he says. “In time trials later in a match, such as in the Tirreno-Adriatico and today, I lose a few percentages of my level. That is also a working point for the future. The time trial today is my last achievement in this year’s Giro. In consultation with the team management, we have decided that tomorrow I will not start go.”
There will be new goals set. “I will focus on new targets such as the Critérium du Dauphiné. That French stage race starts with a prologue, and later there is also a team time trial on the program. After a few days of rest in Belgium, I will visit that game work and also seek a result. The team has me finally attracted to in time-trials to perform, so I try again.” (
