Cinemas in over fifty cities throughout the country celebrate this weekend the birthday of Annie M. G. Schmidt (1911-1995). They show classic films of the hand of the writer as Yes Sister, No Sister, Abeltje, Minoes, Wiplala and Pluk van de Petteflet.

Annie M. G. Schmidt was born on 20 may 1911 and died on 21 may 1995. She is famous for her children’s books as Jip and Janneke, Pluk van de Petteflet and Abeltje and kinderversjes as fat one Dap and The Bear Pippeloentje. In addition, she wrote among others, songs, plays, musicals, and radio and television drama.
