Marcel Brands stops as technical manager of PSV. The 56-year-old Dutchman will take over from 1 June to get started at Everton, reports the Eindhoven-based club on Wednesday.
Brands was a whopping eight years for PSV, and had in Eindhoven have a contract until the summer of 2020. “A tremendously difficult decision, but I think this is a good step at the right time is,” he says in a first reaction to his departure.
De Brabander was responsible for the advent of, among others, Dries Mertens, Kevin Strootman, Georginio Wijnaldum, Andres Guardado and Hirving Lozano to PSV.
Brands won with PSV three times the national championship (2015, 2016 and 2018), once the KNVB cup (2012) and three times the Johan Cruijff Scale (2012, 2015, and 2016).
PSV praises to the outgoing technical manager. “He fulfilled a key role within the resurrection of PSV as one of the top clubs,” writes the PSV. “In the first seasons he contributed with some excellent transfers to the strengthening of the financial foundation.”
“Meanwhile, built Brands to a potential kampioensploeg and he reformed the technical organization and the youth to international standards”, reports the club.
Brands looks back with pleasure on his time in Eindhoven. “We have ups and downs known, but what concerns me is dominated by positive events. I look after eight years with a very satisfied feeling back on my time at PSV.”
“It is really difficult to make something that is good to let go, but now I’m going to do it anyway,” said Brands. “In my function is the Premier League of course something amazing.”
“It is, in all respects, the biggest competition in the world. I now get the chance to be there on my way down. I’m really looking forward to it.”
The born Bosschenaar was for his coming to PSV in as technical director in service at AZ and if technical, commercial and general director at RKC Waalwijk.
When Everton are Davy Klaassen and Maarten Stekelenburg are under contract, all they did this season, hardly in action. The number eight of the Premier League was dismissed earlier today manager Sam Allardyce. Earlier this season, Ronald Koeman already on the street put by Everton.
