ROME – The leader of the Italian Vijfsterrenbeweging (M5S), called for new elections in June. “I see at this point no other solution. We must as quickly as possible back to the polls”, wrote M5S-head Luigi Di Maio on Facebook.

Italy has nearly two months after the elections still no prospect of a new government. The eurosceptic Vijfsterrenbeweging was the largest party, but a gelegenheidsverbond of centrumrechts and the right-populist Lega won more total seats.
Di Maio called the leader of the Lega, Matteo Salvini, in itself behind his call for new elections to rally.
