Former number one of the world Victoria Azarenka has her comeback in the European tenniscircuit announced. On 5 may, she competed at the WTA-tournament in the Spanish capital, Madrid. The 28-year-old belarusian was stuck in the United States through the legal battle for the custody of her son.
“The adventures of Leo and his mommy are starting. We are coming Europe. First stop in Madrid,” writes Azarenka on Twitter, accompanied by a selfie with her son. Two-time winner of the Australian Open (2012, 2013) gave birth in december 2016, of a boy, but broke a few months later with the father of her child. Then started the parents for the American court to fight for custody of the child. A U.s. judge had forbidden that the boy California would leave during the lawsuit. Azarenka continued her tenniscarièrre just stop, so they could fully concentrate on the legal battle with her ex-boyfriend. But now, her son Leo so finally the American territory left.
The tournament in Madrid is only her third tournament since July of 2017, after the tournaments of Indian Wells (eliminated in the second round) and Miami (eliminated in the semi-finals), and her first outside the US. Azarenka didn’t play more in Europe since she was eliminated in the eighth finals of Wimbledon in July 2017.
