Diego Maradona is no longer coach of Al-Fujairah FC from the United Arab Emirates. The 57-year-old Argentinian and the club decided Friday night a few hours after missing out on direct promotion to the UAE Pro League in a good consultation.
Maradona went to a small years ago to work in Fujairah, which is released at the second level, in the United Arab Emirates. The former barcelona star had the club back to the top division. In August he came to the Dutch village of Mierlo to his selection to prepare for the season.
Fujairah ended in the regular season, however, as the third, on two points of the number two Kalba. The top two teams promote directly to the UAE-Pro League.
On the last day had to Fujairah to settle for a 1-1 draw against Khor Fakkan. At a victory was the team of Maradona directly promoted.
Goalkeeper Saeed Sadiq committed a huge blunder at the end. He had a free-kick from about 35 yards, his hands slipped, causing his team to promotion misliep.
Fujairah, however, continued throughout the entire season undefeated. Of the 22 matches played, eleven won, and ended eleven in a tie.
Remarkably enough, Fujairah is still a chance via the play-offs to promote. Therein fight the team with three other clubs for two spots in the top division.
Maradona was working on his first job since in 2012 he was sacked by Al-Wasl, also came from the United Arab Emirates.
Previously had ‘Fell’ from 2008 to 2010, the Argentine national team under his wing. Thus he reached out at the 2010 world cup to the quarter-finals. Then it was his contract not renewed.
