Movies deliver electronics giant Sony money again. The division for television and movies of the Japanese group achieved in the last financial year profit thanks to movies such as “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” and “Spider-Man: Homecoming”. A year earlier, took home the division is a large loss, partly due to the amortisation of the rights of old movies.
The Sony-branch for films, tv productions and television channels received in the fiscal year an operating profit of 41.1 billion yen (over 310 million euro), against a loss of 80,5 billion yen a year earlier. That is partly due to bioscoopsuccessen as “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” and “Spider-Man: Homecoming”. The turnover of the speelfilmdivisie increased thanks to this and other titles by almost half.
Sony as a whole achieved the last year sales of 8.5 trillion yen. Accordingly, the electronics group operating profit of 734,9 billion yen. The net profit amounted to 491 billion yen.
