The organization of the June Arrow (1.1) has announced on Thursday the death of cyclist Michael Goolaerts to honor in their wedstrijdnaam the subtitle “in memoriam Michael Goolaerts” to add. The most aggressive rider in the race after also the Price Michael Goolaerts. Goolaerts was coming from Hallaar, a hamlet of Heist-op-den-Berg, where the contest comes.

“Many supporters have asked us over the past period of time, or we couldn’t organize as a tribute for Michael Goolaerts”, opened the organisation on her facebook account. “After the agreement of the immediate family of Michael, we have jointly decided to, henceforth, as the subtitle ‘in memoriam Michael Goolaerts’ our game to exist. In this dignified manner we want Michael to continue to remember within our organization for its many supporters.”

The June Arrow takes place this year on Saturday 2 June. Won last year, Jasper De Buyst in the contest.

The 23-year-old Michael Goolaerts got on Sunday 8 april a heart attack during Paris-Roubaix, and died later that evening in the hospital of Lille. He was on Tuesday buried in Hallaar.
