Novak Djokovic (ATP 12) Wednesday, his first match at the ATP tournament in Barcelona (gravel/2.510.900 euro) lost. The Serbian former number one, the sixth seed in Barcelona, went in the second round after one hour and 41 minutes in three sets (6-2, 1-6 and 6-3) down against the Slovakian kwalificatiespeler Martin Klizan (ATP 140).
Djokovic has his form not yet to tackle. Last week he died in the eighth-finals at the tournament in Monte Carlo. Before that he lost in Indian Wells and Miami time and again, first party.
The Serbian arrived in march back in competition after in February to have surgery on his torn elbow. Last year was a ‘Nole after Wimbledon for six months on the side because of pain at the elbow. He celebrated his return at the Australian Open, but when they got there, the nuisance, after his lost quarter-final, again.
Sick Nishikori takes off
Also for Kei Nishikori is the tournament already over. The Japanese in the first round was free, lost the openingsset of his party in the second round against Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez (ATP 69) with 6-3 and then gave in. “I didn’t feel so good,” he said afterwards.
The Japanese, the fourteenth seed, played last weekend the final of the Masters 1.000 tournament in Monte Carlo. He lost the final battle of number one in the world, Rafael Nadal. “Despite the defeat in the final in Monte Carlo, were my expectations high for the tournament in Barcelona”, explained Nishori after his problem. “But through the first set I started not feeling well. I wish not to take the risk.”
Nishikori jogged in 2017 for a long time with a polsblessure. He had this this year also forced to give up for the Australian Open, the first grand slam tournament of the year.
