THE HAGUE – Prosecutors have appealed a life sentence demanded against Radovan Karadzic. Prosecutor Katrina Gustafson said at the UN criminal tribunal for the MICT in The Hague that the former leader of the Serbs in Bosnia “are huge power abused to the shedding of blood of countless victims. Justice requires that he be the highest possible punishment: life in prison.”

The now 72-year-old Karadzic was in 2016 40 cell was imposed because of his role in ethnic cleansing in the formerly civil war-torn country. So were the judges him guilty of genocide around Srebrenica, where in 1995 thousands of muslim men were executed.

Karadzic was acquitted of another indictment for genocide. Prosecutors want him there for being convicted by the UN court, the successor of the Joegoslaviëtribunaal. The former leader of the Bosnian Serbs said himself innocent.
