Ecuador no longer acts as a facilitator in the peace talks between the Colombian government and the rebels of the leftist guerrilla National Liberation army (ELN). That the Ecuadorian president Lenin Moreno said Wednesday. The negotiations will be suspended until the ELN agree to ‘terrorist activities’ to stop, says the.
Moreno takes the decision after the recent kidnappings on the border between Colombia and Ecuador. This week, a couple kidnapped, and last week, three journalists from the Ecuadorian newspaper El Comercio killed. The kidnappings could have been carried out by dissidents of the now disarmed Farc-guerrillero programs, under the direction of a man known as ‘Gaucho’.
The Farc rebels locks in november 2016, a peace agreement with the Colombian government and have since been demobilized. Since February, 2017 also performs the ELN controlled negotiations, but that turned as yet to nothing.
