The scholarships have a direct link with the critically acclaimed performance of Beyoncé this weekend at Coachella. “The show, with a tribute to education, was a celebration of the homecoming weekend experience,” said a statement from the foundation. “The energetic production put art and culture in the spotlight, in a mix of old and modern.”
Homecoming is a tradition at American high schools and universities, where former students return for a sporting event and festive activities.
Last year financed Beyoncé also a number of scholarships, then to the one-year anniversary of her album Lemonade to celebrate. The Formation Scholars Awards Program went to ” young women who are brave, creative, self-confident and not afraid to step outside the beaten path to act’.
