Bayern Munich has Friday confirmed that Niko Kovac was appointed as coach for next season. The 46-year-old Croat follows Jupp Heynckes at the ‘Rekordmeister’.
Kovac signed a contract until mid-2021 at Bayern, as confirmed technical director Hasan Salihamidzic Friday. The former midfielder is now coach of Eintracht Frankfurt, the current number five in the Bundesliga.
He is the successor of the 72-year-old Heynckes, Bayern last Saturday in his fourth term to the national championship led the club to the semi-finals of the Champions League achieved.
If a player came to Kovac for years for Hertha BSC, but he played between 2001 and 2003 also in the shirt of Bayern. The 83-fold Croatian international was also under contract with Bayer Leverkusen, Hamburger SV and Red Bull Salzburg.
Kovac began his trainerscarrière at the highest level five years ago as coach of his homeland, where he in the summer of 2016 to his job in Frankfurt began.
