“Girl”, the feature film debut of Lukas Dhont, has been selected for the Cannes film festival. The film will world premiere to be screened in the Un Certain Regard program, a part of the official selection that daring movies and young talent in the spotlight places. It reports the Flemish Audiovisual Fund, after the news was announced during a press conference in Cannes.
“Girl” tells the story of the 15-year-old Lara, who wants to make it as a ballerina. Together with her father defies the world, but especially her body that tegenstribbelt, because Lara is born as a boy.
Dhont showed themselves already notice with the short films L’infini (2014), which qualified for the Academy Awards, and also showered with prizes Corps perdu (2012).
It is 1989 ago, with “The Sacrament” by Hugo Claus, that a majority of Flemish film was selected for Un Certain Regard, according to the VAF.
