For the time being, 44 films included in the Official Selection of the 71st edition of the Cannes film festival, but the coming days will there still be movies to unwind. That has director Thierry Frémaux today announced. Of those movies there are 18 in the competition for the Golden Palm, the main prize.
The Spanish-language film ‘Todos lo saben’ (Everybody Knows) from the Iranian director Asghar Farhadi may be the film festival as opening film underway.
Three films in the competition are from female filmmakers. ‘The Girls of the Sun” of the French Eva Husson, ‘Capharnaüm’ of the Lebanese Nadine Labaki and ‘Lazzaro Felice of the Italian Alice Rohrwacher.
Of two selected directors it is not clear whether they will be able to get to Cannes. The Iranian director Jafar Panah (‘Three Faces’) received from the Iranian authorities and a ban on making movies. In 2010 he was as a juror, are expected in Cannes, but when it was his permission to travel at the last moment withdrawn by the Iranian government. The Russian director Kirill Serebrennikov (Leto) was by the Russian authorities placed under house arrest on suspicion of misappropriation of film foundations.
