Pilot project “The film club” wants young film lovers in Flanders to bring together

In september with “The film club” is an initiative around filmwijsheid in children and young people in Flanders. The intention is to give young film enthusiasts to bring together, as appears from a communication of the Flemish Audiovisual Fund (VAF). The initiative is also supported financially by the Flemish minister of Culture Sven Gatz.

The film club is starting the school year 2018-2019 start in at least 72 schools in Flanders and the Brussels region. Children and young people there may be one time per week, outside of class hours, of the premium films to enjoy. There are both timeless classics, animated films and documentaries to bid. The program mainly focuses on three different age groups: the third kindergarten, the fifth and sixth grade, and young people from the fifth and sixth secondary.

Following In the footsteps of the sport – and reading lounges, this must be a meeting place where lovers on a regular basis. On the way to The film club bets on the formation of a new generation of movie lovers.

The initiative is inspired on the Into Film Clubs in the United Kingdom. There are more than 11,000 clubs active.

The film club is an initiative of the flemish audiovisual fund, jeugdfilmorganisatie JEF and all major Flemish filmorganisaties. Minister Gatz makes 240.000 euros for the start of the project. “Investing in filmwijsheid I find of great importance to children of a young age, but also in their adolescence high-quality movies to learn to recognize and appreciate. Film is after all an essential and valuable part of our culture,” says Gatz.
