Niki Terpstra has the 102nd Tour of Flanders win. The wet and fast run-up made it a beast of a heavy-duty edition of. The Dutchman is a Quick Step Floors jump away after the Pasture and made a solo of 26 kilometres handsome. A new triumph for the men from Patrick Lefevere, that their role during the entire race waarmaakten. Philippe Gilbert was third, while behind the young Mad Pedersen.
Around 10: 30 am at the Steenplein in a wet, Antwerp is the (unofficial) start of the 102nd Tour of Flanders. A quarter of an hour later, pulled the classic in the Castle is officially underway. The 175 riders were eighteen slopes to process in addition to some spicy kasseizones on 264,7 km long route.
Vanmarcke is in unseen nervous run-up
Despite the rain it was the pace immediately very high, by a considerate, Quick Step Floors, it took a very long time before a vluchtgroepje lost from the grip of the peloton. So we got a unseen nervous and heavy run-up, which immediately firmly inhakte at the riders.
Unfortunately, it was Sep Vanmarcke (again) the largest pechvogel all that nervous fuss. The leader of Education First-Drapac came twice fall. He seemed to get out without serious injury, but on the mental front had his team immediately a lot of oplapwerk.
A leading group of eleven
Only after 70 km (at 45 km/h average!) we got the flight of the day, eleven riders received the blessing of the peloton. Among them, three Belgians with Aimé De Gendt (Sport Vlaanderen – Baloise), Dimitri Peyskens (WB – Aqua Protect Veranclassic) and Michael Goolaerts (Verandas Willems – Crelan). They went on an adventure with team mates Pim Ligthart and Floris Gerts (Roompot), Marco Haller (Katusha – Alpecin), Pascal Eenkhoorn (LottoNL – Jumbo), Ryan Gibbons (Dimension Data), Iván García (Bahrain – Merida), Jimmy Turgis (Cofidis) and Filippo Ganna (UAE Team Emirates).
Beestenweer and control
On the first cobblestone sections and slopes, we were immediately in control of Quick Step Floors, the flight never got much more than five minutes clue. The beestenweer cut off, however, there are serious in at the riders: still halfway, we saw nothing but the drawn faces, the riders that their numb hands warm shake, and remarkably early, we also got already a few assignments.
For each slope, it was a fight for positioning, with the men of Quick Step Floors, Bora-Hansgrohe and BMC invariably on the first rows. In the frame of the first times Oude Kwaremont, it was fortunately stopped raining, and the slippery cobblestones all dried up. The regenjasjes could also matter and there could gradually vrank en vrij are gekoerst. Keisse, Sénéchal and Declercq were the only servants in the team of Patrick Lefevere and with z’n threes, they had the price to bear.
Naesen falls in nervous pursuit of The Wall
The nervousness, however, increased approximately 100 kilometers from the finish, with the yacht in the direction of the Wall of Geraardsbergen. A whole package of riders went down in the run-up, however, against the plain: Oliver Naesen, Stijn Devolder and Valgren Andersen layers against the asphalt and also Schär (the lieutenant of Van Avermaet for BMC) licked his wounds. Lutsenko, Barbier and Offredo were transported to the hospital.
On that Wall gave Wout van Aert, is excellent, just as an attentive Tiesj Benoot in the front of the peloton with the block of Quick Step. This time, it appeared that this monumental slope, however, is not decisive.
After The Wall we were equally calm, allowing Naesen again could connect.
Number of Terpstra, bomblet of Van Avermaet
There was, however, not watchful waiting gekoerst because the big names went into the front of the peloton. The throttle was fully open in the peloton in the direction of the legendary trio Oude Kwaremont, Paterberg and Koppenberg. On the Oude Kwaremont tore Lampaert the peloton into pieces, including Nibali and Van Aert followed attentive. Van Avermaet, Naesen and Gilbert could just before the Paterberg to connect and returned the rest back.
Mads Pedersen, Dylan Van Baarle and Sebastian Langeveld have made for the Rain the jump forward and remained after that terrible hump and also only about. In the peloton brought Niki Terpstra a first number on but separation, in the favorites, it was still a short wait. On the Taaienberg dissolved Greg Van Avermaet, in turn, are devils: are not cut off, many breath but no one dared than is already full continue.
The three front-runners drove with 30 km still to a significantly thinned pelotonnetje, but their lead was never much more than a half a minute. Oss kept the gap limited in the service of his team leader peter Sagan, who until then, however, strikingly aloof.
Terpstra counterbalances Nibali and going to full by
After the Pasture leap Vincenzo Nibali on kousenvoeten road and Niki Terpstra was happy to take part in the attack. Even more, the Dutchman went on a 26 kilometers from the finish that only full, looking for the front runners. Behind him was to each other looked, which Made filling the tank was in service Of the Team.
Pedersen, Van Baarle and Langeveld (two Dutchmen) were Terpstra, however, not just close the hole drive. On the third and last time Oude Kwaremont was the unleashed Quickstepper on-and-on the escapees, while behind him his team mates the quantity blocked. Impressive manner, he immediately away, only the young Pedersen followed initially on a few meters.
In the chase, the Belgians, the forces acting on the Oude Kwaremont with Tiesj Benoot, Greg Van Avermaet and Sep Vanmarcke. When Terpstra 45 seconds, picked it up, took Peter Sagan enough of it. The world champion was full of by in the intermediate piece in the direction of last times Paterberg.
Sagan is still in the chase
On that Paterberg was Terpstra not, above, he had 30 seconds ahead of Sagan, which is uphill, our compatriots on the spot left and only went searching for the leading Dutch. But the world champion fell silent, and so was a new triumph for Quick Step Floors is a fact, because his team mates Gilbert and Stybar were the perfect jammers in the chasing group.
