Again heavy earthquake in Papua New Guinea

PORT MORESBY – Papua-New-Guinea is again rocked by a powerful earthquake, which for the south coast of the island of New Britain took place. According to the Us seismological service USGS had the earthquake with a strength of 6.9. A tsunamiwaarschuwing is not issued.

Papua New Guinea lies on the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire where several tectonic plates collide with each other. It is one of the geologically most active areas on earth. At the end of February the country was also hit by an earthquake with a strength of 7.5. This came more than a hundred people to life and touched thousands of people injured.
