The Swedish film The Square from director Ruben Östlund has more than 100,000 visitors are drawn. The winner of the Golden Palm has been running for five months in the Dutch cinemas, which made distributor Cinemien Thursday known.
The slightly absurdist, The Square is about a museum curator who, during the preparations for a new exhibition around a square with his own faults is to face. Leading roles are played by Claes Bang, Elisabeth Moss, and Dominic West.
The film was this year’s Swedish submission for the Oscars. Except for the Golden Palm and won the tragi-comedy the price of the young person’s prize at the festival Film by the Sea in Vlissingen. The Dutch critics were unanimously very positive about the film.
It is remarkable that a Swedish film, so a lot of visitors in the Dutch cinemas. The Square, incidentally, is not the best-attended Swedish title ever; the film adaptation of the successful book Millennium of Stieg Larsson attracted more visitors.
The Square is currently running in two halls: Lab 111 in Amsterdam and Cinema Texel.
