‘Hell does not exist’, says pope

There is no hell where the souls of the sinners in eternity must suffer, said pope Francis on maundy Thursday in an interview with the Italian newspaper La Repubblica.

After the death get the souls of people who repent to be forgiven of God, and they shall be absorbed in His contemplation, says the pope.

“But the souls of those who have no repentance, and no forgiveness can get, disappear,” says Francis. ‘Hell does not exist, what exists is the disappearance of sinful souls.’

The pope was interviewed by the 93-year-old Eugenio Scalfari, an experienced Italian journalist and atheist who often writes about faith and religion. He, the pope has now been five times to meet.

The accuracy of the quotes that he attributes to the pope were in the past into question, especially since the 93-year-old Scalfari has conceded that he never had a tape recorder used during interviews.

The Vatican, however, has never complained about the work of Scalfari and Francisus keeps him interviews allow.
