Former olympic cycling champion Eugeen Van Roosbroeck is at the age of 89 in Noorderwijk died, so made the regional television station RTV Thursday known.
Van Roosbroeck won at the Olympic Games of 1948 in London on the side of Lode Wouters and Leon De Lathouwer the team classification. Wouters finished the individual match third, De Lathouwer was fourth and Van Roosbroeck ninth. He was the last survivor of the golden trio.
“We had only later learned that we the team classification had won and nobody had so thought his medal to get,” said Van Roosbroeck in June 2010, when him a copy of the medal presented by the Belgian Olympic and Interfederal Committee (COIB).
