The 23rd edition of the arts festival begins and ends in two had not yet opened museums: the africa museum in Tervuren, and Kanal/Centre Pompidou.

Every year in may, invites the arts festival 40 international artists and companies in Brussels. The festival takes place this year in 23 theatres and arts centres, but also in some surprising places in the city.

So, Faustin Linyekula a performance in an empty wing of the africa museum, only this autumn re-opens after years of renovation. In Banataba links the Congolese choreographer’s personal quest to his ancestors with the history of his country. Because the africa museum plays an important role in the imagination of that history, he incorporates in his show, also Congolese art from the collection of the museum.

The last four days moving the epicenter of the festival to Kanal/Centre Pompidou, the large museum project of the Brussels Region. At the beginning of may to open the empty building of the Kanal to the public. The performances during the arts festival therefore belong to the first artistic events in the old citroën garage.

During the opening weekend is especially looking forward to the world premiere of La reprise, the first part of the cycle Histoire(s) du Théâtre de Milo Rau. This is the first production of the Swiss theatre-maker who co-produced by NTGent and this summer to Avignon travelling. Other names on the program, Toshiki Okada (Japan), Amir Reza Koohestani (Iran) and choreographers Michiel Vandevelde and Louis Vanhaverbeke.

Although it is not with one theme works, the arts festival this year, two focus. Thus presents the six Brazilian companies that own land often hampered face of the government and religious groups. In art school Insas is going to The May Events, a festivalluik about resistance and protest on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of may ’68.

The Festival runs from 4 to 26 may. The ticket sale starts on 6 april.
