CHENNAI – Indian village councils that strict impose penalties for marriages between people of different castes, has to be punished. The supreme court of India has ruled that the councils and not, as the court may operate.
“In the whole country, there are more and more cases of couples being attacked or murdered because they are outside of their caste married”, said a mensenrechtenlobbyist.
Approximately five hundred people, mainly women, are since 2014 killed off ’honour killings’, it is evident from overheidscijfers. The murders are often committed by family members who believe that the relationship the community confounds. The murders are often dedicated by the village councils, which are comprised of unelected men of a certain clan or caste.
