Marc Verlinden was Saturday elected the new president of Basketball Flanders. The former referee follows Adri Welvaarts, and continuing at least until 31 december 2021 at post. That has Basketball, Flanders announced Monday. Welvaarts remains a member of the Board of Directors.
The 58-year-old Verlinden was as treasurer in the Board of Directors. The ma criminology has a past as a referee in basketball, both in 5X5 like a 3X3. In addition, he has extensive experience as a director, both at club and policy level.
“I want to work to create a smooth communication with all stakeholders, both internally and externally, and in consultation with the governance of our organisation continue to develop,” said the new chairman. “Together with my fellow directors I would like to initially focus on the creation of a new national entity and a competitiehervorming, both at the level of seniors and youth.”
Verlinden is the fifth president since the existence of Basketball Flanders. Hugo Daemen, Marc Van Vooren, Miguel Stevens, and Adri Welvaarts went for him.
