Robert Maaskant returns in Dutch professional football. Not as a coach but as technical director.
The 49-year-old Schiedam signed on Saturday a contract until the summer of 2020 at Almere City FC, the current number 12 of the Jupiler League. Maaskant begins immediately in his new job.
“I am pleasantly surprised by the ambition and freshness of this club,” says Maaskant. “This club is very innovative, which fits with the core values Young, cocky and ambitious. I also always carry a innovative perspective on football and knows how it is to be with a small club to promote. That fits in well on to each other”, said the coach, who is in the Netherlands as head coach worked at RBC Roosendaal, Go Ahead Eagles, Willem II, MVV, NAC Breda and FC Groningen.
Abroad he had the Polish Wisla Krakow, the belarusian Dinamo Minsk and the American Columbus Crew under his wing. With Wisla Krakow won the national in 2011 the national title.
Maaskant: “At various clubs I am technical manager, so the work is not new for me. The club is very ambitious, but the closer you get to your target, the less progression you book. The last step is always the hardest. The phase we are now going with each other. I want the club in general and the technical staff in particular to help you.”
