Henk Fraser is the new coach of Sparta Rotterdam. The 51-year-old born Surinamese signs a contract until the summer of 2020 at The Castle.

Fraser is currently at the helm at Vitesse, but decided in the winter break all of his expiring contract at the Gelredome stadium not to renew.

The former defender led Vitesse last year, to the profit of the KNVB-cup. That meant the first prize in the 125-year-old clubhistorie of the people from arnhem.

Fraser this season with Vitesse after 28 of the 34 speelrondes on the sixth place and makes so still plenty of chance to win a ticket for the preliminary round of the Europa League.

The six Orange-international started his spelersloopbaan in the season 1984/1985 at Sparta and came in two years time to a total of twelve appearances in the first team.

Fraser follows from July 1 to Dick Advocaat as a responsible person in Sparta. Who took it in turn, in december for a half year from the sacked Alex Pastoor.

Fraser is looking forward to his new challenge. “I am Sparta always continue to follow, and it is a unique club. I look forward to after the current season at Sparta to get started. Of course is my focus fully on to the season with Vitesse to close.”

Technical manager Henk van Stee of Sparta is delighted with the capture of Fraser. “We obviously have a profile made. There are a number of candidates come out and the choice fell on Henk. He has the experience, very well performed with other clubs and also a past at Sparta.”

Sparta with a sixteenth place seriously consider relegation to the Jupiler League. If that is actually going to happen, then that does not mean that Fraser wouldn’t come.

“Henk has signed a contract for two seasons, regardless of level, but we go out of Eredivisie”,, Van Stee know.
