Carter Burwell, the composer of the soundtrack of the award-winning ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, lowered on 17 October to Ghent for the 18th World Soundtrack Awards, Ghent film festival. Burwell was for his music at the black dramakomedie this year even nominated for an Oscar. Also, the presence of Nicholas Britell is expected; he received the award last year of ‘Discovery of the Year’ at the festival for his music for “oscar” Italian ‘Moonlight’. That message entertainmentmagazine Variety.
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri was at the 90th ceremony of the Oscars, at the beginning of this month, still mentioned as a major contender on the grand prize. The Oscar for best film eventually went to ‘The Shape of Water’, but the lead actress Frances McDormand won the Oscar for best actress and Sam Rockwell for best male supporting role in the tragi-comedy about a single mother who is looking for the murderer of her child.
Burwell was also nominated for an Oscar for his music for ‘Carol’ and won an Emmy for the soundtrack of the HBO miniseries ‘Mildred Pierce’. But he is perhaps best known for his music in the films of the brothers Coen, such as ‘Fargo’, ‘The Big Lebowski’ and ‘True Grit’.
“His groundbreaking scores for the diverse and innovative films created by the brothers Coen, and his work for many other directors, show a strong originality and a powerful sense for the eccentric, the experimental and minimalist. Burwell likes the freedom and spirit of the independent films alive,” says artistic director Patrick Duynslaegher.
