BRUSSELS – The fraction of social democrats in the European Parliament has a new president. The German Udo Bullmann is chosen as the successor of the Italian Gianni pittella lapse, which is left to the Italian senate. He took the beginning of this month farewell to Brussels.
The Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D), with 189 of the 751 seats in the second fraction. The Labour party has three members represented.
The 61-year-old Bullmann is since 1999 a member of the EU parliament. After his election Tuesday night in Brussels, he stated that the society, fundamental changes are needed. ,,There must be a renewed social democracy, which is committed to the sustainable development of the society.” The social democrats should, according to him, focus on the fight against all possible types of inequality, the development of a decent migratieagenda and a fair trade.
