Film studio The Weinstein Company has Monday it has filed for bankruptcy. The company was at the bottom of the allegations of sexual abuse to the address of chief Harvey Weinstein.
The studio was the last months searching for a buyer or investor. A group of investors were willing to take 500 million dollars to lay down for parts of the company, but the sale ricocheted start this month off due to ‘adverse information’ in the accounts.
The brothers Harvey and Bob Weinstein founded The Weinstein Company in 2005, after their studio Miramax had sold to Disney. The greatest successes of the studio were ‘Django Unchained’, ‘The King’s Speech’ and ‘Silver Linings Playbook’. The company also produced television programmes like’Project Runway’ and ‘Marco Polo’.
Harvey Weinstein is by dozens of women accused of sexual abuse, ranging from harassment to rape. He was from the company, but the attorney general of the state of New York recently filed a lawsuit against the movie studio. The senior would have failed to protect employees from the former director.
