In the cultural program Dance around the world travel, Ish Ait Hamou and Jan Kooijman as from Monday 2 april around the world to the most special dance to learn. As a former modern dancer and hiphopdanser they have their stripes in the world of dance have earned it, but they can also totally unprepared survive in unknown danswerelden?
By means of the dance diving Jan and Ish in the culture of the country, with all its unusual and sometimes bizarre traditions. Ultimately, they perform the dance together with the local population. Jan and Ish travel amongst other things, to the high Andes mountains of Peru to the Danza de la Tijeras, with a Hopakoptreden in a large theatre of Ukraine, and on a Jordanian feast to see what they can of the Arabian dance, the Dabke.
Episode 1: Peru (april 2)
Ish and Jan travel to the high Andes mountains of Peru to the Danza de la Tijeras, i.e. the Schaardans to learn. To do this, they drive 13 hours to the hilltop village of Andamarca, where they are immersed in the local customs. Dance to more than 3000 meters of altitude by the thin air is not easy. There also appears to be a bizarre cactusritueel for the dance to hear…
Episode 2: Jordan (9 april)
Jan and Ish go to Jordan where they have the Dabke learning. This journey takes them from the folklore dancers in the rocky mountains of Little Petra, along the Dead Sea to the city of Zarqa. Here, they meet their dance teacher that they bring to his mosque and give them the local modern party scene. Jan and Ish are in no time ready for the action, including an Arabic make-over.
Episode 3: Ukraine (16 april)
In the Ukraine dives Ish and Jan in the Kozakkendans, the Hopak. They take the overnight train across the country and come to visit a typical Ukrainian bbq with of course: a lot of drink… Because to dance, to run, you need according to the Ukrainians a real man, or a Cossack. John and Ish have 48 hours to dancing Cossacks to transform, because then they act in a large theater.
