Southampton Wednesday Mark Hughes appointed as new coach. The 45-year-old Dutch boss, former player of the club, follows the Monday sacked Mauricio Pellegrino.
Hughes had as a coach earlier, Blackburn Rovers, Manchester City, Fulham, Queens Park Rangers and Stoke City under his care and signs a contract until the end of the season in the St. Mary’s Stadium.
Early this year, Hughes dismissed at Stoke City, the club where he is four and a half years. At Southampton get the former international Wales and ex-player of Manchester United, among others, Wesley Hoedt.
Southampton has won in the last seventeen matches played once. With still eight matches to play, the old club coach Ronald Koeman one point and one place above the degradatiestreep.
Hughes is already on Thursday for the first time on the training ground at Southampton and is Sunday, for the first time on the bank. The ‘Saints’ than in the quarter finals of the FA Cup on a visit to Wigan Athletic.
Ninth coach
Pellegrino was Monday already the ninth coach this season was fired in the Premier League. Among others, Frank de Boer (Crystal Palace) and Koeman (Everton) left him for.
Also Slaven Bilic (West Ham United), Tony Pulis (West Bromwich Albion), Paul Clement (Swansea City), Craig Shakespeare (Leicester City), Marco Silva (Watford) and so Hughes (Stoke City) were dismissed.
