‘Tulip Fever’ is an entertaining kostuumdrama that takes place in the Amsterdam of the seventeenth century. Cornelis Sandvoort (Christoph Waltz) is a wealthy merchant who marries the beautiful Sophia (Alicia Vikander). He leaves a portrait painting by the artist Jan Van Loos (Dane DeHaan), but who is in love with Sophia… Throughout this romantic story, you get – unfortunately only briefly – something from the tulpenbollengekte that in the Netherlands there is.

The film is based on a novel by Deborah Moggach and was in front of the white canvas is adapted by no less than Tom Stoppard (known from o.a. ‘Shakespeare in Love’). The direction is in the hands of Justin Chadwick.

‘Tulip Fever’ was not a big success in the cinema, but is beautiful to look at and the cast is good. Ideal for those who kostuumdrama’s likes and want to cozy up at home in the office to hang out for an evening movie.
