BERLIN – The man known as the “bookkeeper of Auschwitz’ is on at the age of 96 died. He was in 2015 one of the last people who were convicted for the nazi genocide of Jews during the Second world War.
Oskar Gröning was to four-year prison sentence for his role as accomplice in the murder of 300,000 of the estimated one million victims of the Auschwitz concentration camp. He was in the hospital when he died, and his punishment had yet to begin.
Gröning is according to a spokesman for the prosecutor’s office in Hanover Friday died. He took no part in the murders, but had the afgepakte money from victims upon their arrival in the camp.
