‘That people with Down’s captivating tv cause we know since Tytgat Chocolat. In which series to undertake the actors of Theater stap, a roadtrip to Kosovo, looking for Tina. The new One-documentary series Down the road makes that fiction a reality. In a very, um, special appelblauwzeegroen and red and white striped minivan traveling Dieter Coppens by seven European countries with six people with Down’s syndrome who meet each other in advance is not yet known.
The intro makes curious: what a spectacular summer camp is this! Coppens, just 40 has become, even makes mention of ‘the greatest adventure of my life’. Best is a bold statement, knowing that he is with his cousin Matthias all in one hundred days from the South pole to the north Pole hitchhiked and Copy beast electricity tried to pick out a sidderaal.
Already showed the first episode of Down the road rather cosy than dangerous. A smooth build, a barbecue and a boat trip to seals tracking: very exciting, is not all. It does what think of The mole, with GoPro’s that the activities of filming and individual interviews at the end of the day, but without the blood-curdling commands, and – fortunately – without candidates who lose weight.
This program should also have the small boundaries that the downies overcome. And of the disarming chemistry between them and Dieter, as always, wide smiling scoutsleider appreciated by everyone. The flirting, the longing, sleepers with no poles from their tent to get: all what we of a camp to remember, see you here also.
The most we have laughed when the participants themselves are the director names. Especially Kevin from Boutersem is an entertainer. If he is at the vlottentocht a fainting feigns, he forces Dieter almost mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. And when Coppens at the end to a emomomentje hint (“You have something to overcome on this boat, eh Hannah?’), she answered coolly and goudeerlijk: “I have a hongertje’.
That kind of pure, unforced scenes we hope to see more. And that will probably happen, if you see how some of the participants after only twelve hours to tour all a love develop for each other.
The tears will so richly flow. It Is not out of fear or by love, to the inevitable end that ever to this journey of their life. We still have a while on camp, to our longing becomes too great.
