ATHENS – The Greek minister of Economic Affairs, Dimitris Papadimitriou, has resigned after a row about a huurvergoeding for his wife, Rania Antonopoulou. She took the Monday off as minister of state with responsibility for social solidarity, after the controversy had arisen about compensation from the government to a chic apartment in Athens to rent.
Antonopoulou recognized that they a few years ago, a total of 23,000 euros in government money for the rent requested and received. She sets the law not to have been breached, but is willing to pay back. According to the Greek newspaper Kathimerini will prime minister Alexis Tsipras the opportunity for the composition of his government on Tuesday to change.
The ’ministersechtpaar’ was, according to Greek media, the ’richest couple’ in the government. In 2015, they earned a total of € 450,000 and they are the owners of numerous properties at home and abroad.
