He directed You Only Live Twice, The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker. The London-born director has about forty movies to his name. He began as jeugdacteur in the film Dick Turpin (1933), and he has worked for Alfred Hitchcock. In the Second world War, he was in filmdienst of the Royal Air Force. After the war, Gilbert with the directing of documentaries and making of movies.
Gilbert’s last movie was Before You Go in 2002.
