In France, the discovery of some bones of the interest in an old murder case again flare up. But as Guillaume Seznec almost a century ago wrongly, to life imprisonment was condemned, who was the killer? And there was murder?

Pierre Quéméneur, a plaatstelijk politician and entrepreneur from Brittany drew at the end of may 1923, together with his business partner Guillaume Seznec to Paris. The two were hoping there to conclude a deal on a lot of cars that the American army after the First world War had left, and that they are in Russia, the man wanted to bring. As far as did not. Because the Cadillac of Seznec constantly with breakdowns to count, got, decided Quéméneur only continue to travel with the train. Seznec returned to Brittany to his car to be repaired.
At least, that was the version of Seznec. Quéméneur, however, never in Paris arrived. Because Seznec was the last seen of him, he was soon suspected. In the course of the research, dived in addition, a verkoopbewijs on which had to prove that Quéméneur just before, a property at a bargain price to Seznec had sold. That document was also falsified. That was all that this is not beneficial for Seznec.
No body, no evidence, no confession
After a process of 8 days where more than one hundred witnesses to the word came, it was Seznec in november 1924 condemned. Lifelong hard labour, was the verdict.
There are some caveats to that statement. So is the body of Quéméneur never recovered and it was never proven that he actually was murdered. That Seznec, so far as known, was the last who has seen him and that he is a verkoopbewijs distorted, to be strong evidence, does not prove that Seznec is a murderer. Other hard evidence for were not there.
Seznec has never known. He got after the Second world War, sentence remissions and came in 1947, free and until his death in 1954 – when in Paris, he was hit by a van – he maintained his innocence, standing.
Family not giving up
Also his family was always believe in his innocence. His grandson, Dennis argued for years, a battle for the truth and tried several times the case was reopened. In vain. That battle led last weekend to the former house of the family Seznec in Morlaix.
Dozens of volunteers looked through to the basement and that paid off: they found on Saturday a piece of a pipe and a bone, probably a piece of a human thigh bone. Sunday was the scavenger hunt under the supervision of the police continue, and there was a bone found, you may still have a piece of thigh bone.
“We will still find,” said Bernard Vilain, who already have a book about the case to his name, to news agency AFP. According to Vilain include the amateur researchers, moreover, about “solid information” that would indicate that Seznec indeed innocent.
‘Cherchez la femme
Vilain refers to the testimony of one of the children of Seznec, ‘Petit Guillaume’, which at the time of the facts 11 years. Who would be in 1978, a cousin told how he had heard that his mother, Marie-Jeanne, the advances of Quéméneur rejected. Then he would have seen how Quéméneur motionless on the floor, while his mother stood by.
It Was a scuffle and Quéméneur unhappy at the fall come? Or has Marie-Jeanne him, in self-defense, a hard blow sold? Difficult to create and nearly impossible to prove based only on the testimony of someone who, after decades of telling what he as a-year-old nearly a century ago would have seen. But it does however once again doubts arise about the guilt of Guillaume Seznec. When DNA testing now proves that the bones that this weekend found of Quéméneur, that the pressure for the case to be re-only increase.
