2017 was the year of Ed Sheeran. It is no surprise that he is worldwide the best-selling artist. The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) made that known. The singer will soon be getting the Global Recording Artist of the Year Award.
Ed dominated both the singlelijst as the album charts. His album Divide took in 36 countries and platinum status. His hit single Shape or You reached that status in 32 countries. According to the IFPI, the Brit is the first artist in the same year both verkooplijstjes referred to.
In the inventory are not only the physical sales of cds and vinyl included. Also, the sales of mp3 and streams from streaming services will count.
The Global Recording Artist of the Year Award since 2013 were awarded. Drake, Adele, Taylor Swift and One Direction were the previous winners.
