The Spaniard Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) has the Tour of Abu Dhabi (WorldTour) won, after his victory Sunday in the final stage.

The Australian Rohan Dennis (BMC), Saturday all-powerful in the time trial, did not succeed in his red leader’s jersey to keep. The 37-year-old Valverde went away on the tough final climb. Eventually he pulled together with Miguel Angel Lopez to the finish of the 199-kilometre long final stage between Qasr Al Muwaiji and Jebel Hafeet. The Colombian had to settle for second place. The Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe was third at 15 seconds, for the Pole Rafal Majka and the Dutchman Wilco Kelderman. On the hall of fame is Valverde the successor of the Portuguese Rui Costa.
