BRUSSELS – Voedselwaakhond foodwatch is very worried about a possible trade agreement between the European Union and the South American trading bloc Mercosur. The organisation should start a collection campaign against it.
“The Brazilian meat producers, who are already very cheap huge amounts of bulkvlees produce, their production and exports may significantly increase. This can have serious consequences for the environment, animal welfare and food safety”, fear foodwatch.
The organization refers to the canopy of the rainforest for the benefit of the livestock, conflicts with indigenous and small farmers and also ’slave labor’ and further to the process of rotting meat.
The negotiations for a treaty between the European Union and the Mercosur countries, including Argentina and Brazil, are going on.
