Director Guillermo del Toro and film company Fox Searchlight have a lawsuit on the pants received due to alleged plagiarism in the film The Shape of Water. The film would be a lot of striking similarities with a play from 1969, writes the BBC.
The case was brought by the family of the 2003 deceased playwright Paul Zindel that the play Let Me Hear You Whisper in the sixties wrote. According to the lawyer of the family, the film 61 similarities with the play.
The makers of the film and the film company deny the allegation and say “never play it, to have heard.” They say that “one hundred percent sure that the movie is an original story.”
“We will tooth and nail defend that The Shape of Water is an authentic and groundbreaking film. The allegations of the family miss each floor”, as is read in a statement from Fox Searchlight.
The film already has two Golden Globes and three Bafta’s won. Also, the movie was nominated for thirteen Oscars. That will be Sunday, march 4, presented.
